Tellagami
Lesson 1 - Persuasive speeches
In this lesson students read an article about the Mars One project in the school magazine. The article asked students to write a persuasive piece stating why they should be considered as a member of the Mars One team. Students write their arguments down and then recorded them using Tellagami. Some students chose to save an image from the internet while others took a photo using the camera to create their background image. The examples below are from Stage 2 (Yr 3 & 4) students. |

Lesson 2 - Narrative Introduction
We've been reading the transmedia novel 'Inanimate Alice' and this task involved student creating their own beginning for Episode 4 based on patterns they had observed from the previous three episodes. We looked at text structure, language use and plot occurences.
To complete the task students had to:
1. Review the first three episodes and take notes detailing the similarities between each episode.
2. Write an introduction to Episode 4 with only the knowledge that it is set in England. Students had to hook their viewer to want more.
3. Select a background that is appropriate to the storyline. Some students opted to create their own background or locate an image and import it into the app.
4. Create an avatar for the character of Alice.
5. Record their story. Some Episode 4 introductions were longer than 30 seconds so they had to record two clips and then put them together using iMovie.
Here are some examples from Stage 3 students.

Lesson Idea 3 - 100 Word Challenge
This year my students have become involved in the 100 Word Challenge. Each week they are given a prompt, which may be a word, a phrase or an image and then have to create a piece of quality writing in 100 words or less. The post is published on their blog and then submitted to the 100WC site. Each week hundreds of wonderful volunteers then comment on each of the student blog posts, giving constructive feedback on their writing. Now my students hear the same things from others as they do from me, which really reinforces the areas they need to work on, as well as those they do well.
To change things up a little, we published our 100 word challenge as a tellagami, after seeing this on Mr Dunn's class news broadcast. It was tricky seeing you only get 30 seconds of footage, so some of the students had to stitch theirs together in iMovie.
