iMotion HD
Lesson Idea 1
Below are some examples of animations made by Stage 3 students, using only iMotion HD.
- Students research the water cycle and draw a basic diagram identifying the main stages.
- Students create a background for their stop motion animation using a variety of materials e.g. coloured paper, cellophane, material, cotton wool, crepe paper.
- Students create some props that will move across the background to create the animation e.g. clouds, rain, vapour.
- Using iMotion students take a series of photos showing the water cycle.
- Once complete the animation is exported to the photo roll and emailed to the teacher.
- The completed animation can be further edited in iMovie. Click here to see how this was done.

Lesson Idea 2
To celebrate International Dot Day students were encouraged to make a 'dot' themed stop motion animation using skittles. There were no other requirements as I wanted students to be as creative as they could be. To inspire them before starting I showed them the Skittles television advert that was created using stop motion.
Here are some examples from Stage 3 students.

Lesson Idea 3
Recreate a scene from a picture book.
After reading 'Tadpole's Promise' by Jeanne Willis my Year 1 & 2 students attempted their first ever stop motion animations. We started simple by recreating the scene where the tadpole and caterpillar met and fell in love. Students designed the background using crayons, texta, coloured pencils. The tadpole and caterpillar were then made from playdoh and the hearts cut out from shiny red brenex. The students then recreated the scene step by step using iMotion HD. We were thrilled that Jeanne Willis popped by our class blog to check out our animations and leave a comment.
